The Service
It is a soil treatment carried out during construction. A trained technician applies a termiticide to the ground at set stages of the build, from the foundation trenches to the plinth. The treated soil forms a barrier between the ground and the structure, so termites moving up from below meet treated soil before they reach walls, frames or fittings.
Timing is everything. The soil under a building can only be treated properly while it is still open. Once the floor slab is poured, the only way back in is to drill through finished floors.

Why It Matters
A UAE field survey by W. Kaakeh (2005) recorded six termite species in the country, all six of them in Abu Dhabi, including sand termites and small subterranean species. They travel through earth tunnels, so they are rarely seen.
Termites need damp soil. Garden irrigation, lawns and planters along villa walls keep the ground moist next to the foundation, even in summer.
Termites can feed on door frames, skirting, kitchen cabinet backs, ceiling battens, MDF wardrobes and gypsum board. They often enter through expansion joints, pipe openings and slab cracks.
Approvals
Requirements depend on your project. Some consultant specifications include anti-termite soil treatment and ask for a certificate at handover; others do not. Check your project specification with your consultant. If treatment is required, we provide the stage reports and certificate they ask for.
Since 2024 the Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre (ADPHC) issues permits for pest control work in the emirate and regulates how pesticides are used. Public health pesticides sold in the UAE must hold a registration certificate. We use only registered imidacloprid termiticides:

Treatment Stages
We treat the soil at five points in the build. Each visit is agreed in advance with your site engineer so concrete work can continue on schedule.
Bottom of the excavation, before blinding concrete; sides of footings.
Label rate: 4.1 L per m² on horizontal surfaces; 5 L per running metre for each 0.3 m of depth on vertical surfaces

We apply the termiticide at the rates on the product label. For Prothor SC 2, the label sets a solution of 0.05% (or 0.10% where termite pressure or soil conditions are difficult). If your consultant’s specification, such as one based on IS 6313 (Part 2), asks for more, we follow the specification. We never apply less than the label dose.
Stage 1 is the most important visit: if trenches are concreted before treatment, that soil cannot be reached again. Stage 5 should be done before landscaping starts. The label also requires us to tell the main contractor before each application, so workers stay clear until the solution has soaked into the soil.
How We Treat
This is the method most project specifications ask for. We mix a registered imidacloprid termiticide with water and apply it with calibrated sprayers at the label rates. The US EPA describes soil barrier treatment as the most common termite treatment and advises that a trained professional apply it using a product labelled for that use.
Stainless steel mesh or termite resistant sheeting can be fitted at slab penetrations and joints. This adds a layer that does not rely on chemicals.
Bait stations are placed in the ground around a finished villa to monitor and control termite activity. They are an optional add-on and do not replace the soil barrier under the building.

In the manufacturer's soil poisoner field test for Mayaimida 200 SC (SANS 5859 method), a survey seven years after treatment found no termite attack on bait timber in the treated plots, while untreated plots were attacked. Results on a real site depend on soil, moisture and correct application.
